I remember in class Dr. Witherington shared his pretty strong opinion that Simon the Leper was the father of Mary, Martha & Lazarus. That they had been a quite prominent family. But since Simon got leprosy (and perhaps the mother died from it), these 3 children were now considered somewhat suspect in terms of courtship. Witherington thinks this explains why they are seemingly single and living together as adults. Of course, much of that is speculation on his part.

He also says that nowhere in John 13 is it said that this meal actually took place in Jerusalem or that it was a Passover meal, only that it took place before the Passover.

Yes, though he says this so that he doesn't have to have a BD with two separate houses. Either solution is very problematic, imo.

Yes i think that's why he points it out, but it's not speculation or problematic if Mark 14 says Simon owned the house and since his kids lived in it then it may be fair to say they owned it since John was written later then Mark.
As far as where this evening meal took place it seems like a legitimate possibility that they could have gone back to Bethany as they just had a previous meal there where Lazarus did sit with Jesus and recline on him , if memory serves me.

I meant having the meal of John 13 not being the passover in Jerusalem, or having Lazarus owning two houses are both problematic. I think Lazarus did live at the house of Simon the Leper. That isn't problematic to any view.

OK then if the Bethany house was Simon's then it's possible for Lazarus to have a house in Jerusalem even if he did'nt live their 7 days a week. Maybe he did'nt want to live with his two sisters all the time and stayed in Jerusalem part time like Fri-Sun . I mean would you want to live with two sisters 24/7?
