I will say this: Luke was a companion of the apostle Paul. At one point in Luke's account of the events in Acts, "they" changes to "we" as Luke joined them. But Paul didn't know firsthand about the events in Jesus' life. Matthew and John. as two of the Twelve, has been with him. Mark got his information from Peter, also one of the Twelve.
However, when Jesus was captured, "all forsook Him and fled." (Matt 26:56). So did ANY of the Twelve or the gospel writers actually hear what Jesus said while He was on the cross?

All four gospels specifically mention that two men were crucified with Jesus, one on His left and one on His right, then ...MMathis wrote:I can't find where it says both convicts were insulting Jesus?
Matthew 27:44 - "The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words."
Mark 15:32b - "Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him."
I know that these accounts aren't necessarily contradictory. But I am curious to know if there are any old copies of Luke without that account and how well known the story was quoted among the writings of the 2nd-4th century Christians, if at all. I haven't had a chance to look into it more.
Mary and the "apostle who Jesus loved" were close by the cross, per John 19.

Ah man, for a second I thought Perry was posting again, but then I looked at the dates. If you're still lurking at times Perry, I hope you are well.

Well, I can't find any evidence of any version of Luke without the story (not that I looked for that long). The earliest comments of the account that I can find are from the mid to late 4th century.
It doesn't necessarily contradict Mark and Matthew, I realize. Just another one of those things that we'll have to wait and see.
