i heard a sermon today and the speaker surmised that the the rich young ruler that "went away sad" when Jesus told him to sell everything may have been Joseph of Arimathea. he was simply surmising, joseph was a member of the council, and likely wealthy.
i had never heard this possible connection-- have any of you?

I've also heard it could have been John Mark. Who can know?
I don't think knowing the identity of the person would change a thing about the story or its moral.

i agree with you about that, C.
i've also heard that the youth that ran away naked from the garden of gethsemane in mark's gospel may have been mark himself.
but you are right-- who knows? i guess i'd rather speculate on bible things than on whether bigfoot exists and stuff like that.
but if it WAS joseph of A., i can imagine him thinking as they were laying jesus in the tomb that "i finally gave it all up-- but now he's gone."
