Re: Is God a Monster?
Hi Steve - Good to hear from you... I will merely respond to two things you said: I failed to see the conundrum that you presented, concerning John 6 as having any damaging impact upon the Arminian view. When Jesus says that it is the will of the Father that Jesus not lose any of those given to Him,...

Re: Is God a Monster?
What's strange about your post is that you seem to be calling us toward a more friendly way of looking at our Calvinist or Arminian brothers and sisters. Yet, simultaneously, you refer to open theists as holding to 'wacky misconceptions'. So, in the end, you feel free to call open theists wacky... ...

Re: Is God a Monster?
I'll be honest and say I don't know where I land. I wake up day to day, sometimes an Arminian (as Arminius taught it, holding to total depravity, as well as other tenants that most Calvinist claim as their own, and most Arminians reject by way of seeing it comes from Calvinists - see Robert. E. Pici...

Re: (T)ULIP
Jaydam, I am currently a fence-rider, between Arminianism and Calvinism. So let me answer succinctly, I think, of how most Calvinists I've read might respond. Does Calvinism fall apart if Total Depravity is taken away? If Total Depravity is "taken away," that is, if the idea that the mind is hostile...

What is the Treasury of Merit?
I've been studying Roman Catholicism to better understand two of my friends who are in this church (and I believe Gospel-loving, Jesus-centered Christians). And I came across a "doctrine" or belief in the "treasury of merit." The person I'm listening to lectures on the matter (who I care not to disc...

Re: John 6:44
Hi remade, It's been helpful for me to think of it this way. Only people who come to God of their own free will are God's. God gives Christ all of those who are God's to give. People come first to God by listening and obeying. If someone has truly done this, then God draws them to Christ. That's wh...

Re: John 6:44
Doug- That is an interesting theory, and not outside the realm of possibility. But the reference to John 6:44, and 54 is an obvious reference to salvation and eternal life, " Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day, ". Also, the inclusi...

John 6:44
Perhaps this has been a verse addressed already in this forum, but after looking through a few of the first few pages, I didn't find anything I thought related specifically to this above verse. In John 6:44, Jesus says in context: 41 So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread t...

An Arminian Piper / Driscoll / Sproul / Keller?
I read an article once on Roger Olsen's blog about John Piper answering the question, "Why are there no solid Arminian preachers?" In other words, when we think about book-store Christian authors, we either usually run in to prosperity-theologians, or die-hard Calvinists. Piper responded, "Well let'...

Re: Dispensationalist Question: Gentile-Converts to Jews
I am simply interested in how a believer in this system would answer said question.
