Re: Where Is Everybody?

I pop in very occasionally anymore. This forum was a great middle step for me from fundamentalism to evangelicalism, but I've since starting interpreting scripture through a narrative-historical method ( http://www.postost.net/2014/09/narrative-historical-method-outline ) so much of what is discusse...

Re:

I also think we need to differentiate between what God can do and what God does. We don't want to say God devises every outcome because that would be making God responsible for all of the evil in the world. I think the Proverb is simply saying God can overrule the plans of men to get the outcome he ...

Re: Charlottesville, VA Turmoil

All the bad guys are leftists and anything that says otherwise is FAKE NEWS! Oh, the joys of living in Trumpworld... I love when people say, "The Civil War had nothing to do with slavery. It was about states' rights." Yup! The southern states wanted the right to do what? Oh yeah, now I rememb...

Re: The Vision of Peter in Acts 10:9-16

Gentiles were never under the OT dietary laws, so we can take that off the board. Whether or not Jews should still follow the Law will depend on whether or not they accept Paul's writings on the matter--Rom. 7:4, Eph. 2:11-12, and Gal. 3:14--or the words of the unknown author of Hebrews who said, "B...

Re: Is Genesis History?

I used to think the first chapters of Genesis were a historical account, but I find the idea that Genesis was written as a polemic against Ancient Near East mythology to be more likely. If you're not familiar with this idea, check out this link: https://bible.org/article/genesis-1-2-light-ancient-eg...

Re: The Benedict Option

The little bit that I've read makes me think of the Amish lifestyle.

This seems to be a movement motivated by fear: If we don't huddle up in tight communities, we'll disappear.

I haven't read the book, but if it endorses anything like the above, I'm not a fan.

Re: Revelation 20:5 Confusion

I'm an amillennialist but I thought I'd throw out my opinion on what Jesus said to the thief on the cross. I believe his reference to being with him in paradise simply meant they would both dies that day and be counted among the righteous, i.e. Abraham's bosom. I believe paradise has less to do with...

Re: Why did Jesus stop reading?

Paidion, thanks for the links. The first chapter made me think of NT Wright and NPP (with a Church of Christ baptismal view). I think the NPP was a long overdue corrective and has dealt a blow to the doctrine of imputation. (Unfortunately, the doctrine of imputation is still quite strong in the Prot...

Re: God is Love and the Trinity

mattrose, what do you mean when you say, "I think progressive revelation (and especially the culmination of revelation in Jesus) is undeniable"? You already know I'm not convinced of the doctrine of progressive revelation but what I'm asking about is "the culmination of revelation in Jesus." What do...
