Re: διαβολος (fallen angel?)

The clue in Genesis is usually missed. Genesis 3:1 notes that Satan is more cunning the any of the wild animals. or NASB shows "beast of the field." The association with the creatures of the planet/ suggests Satan is also a creature of the planet rather than an angel. His existence begins with the c...

Re: Jesus is God

Although I recognized the passages in the gospels that pointed to the deity of Christ, Paul's letters sometimes seemed to speak against recognition of his deity. It was the general tendency of Paul to refer to God and Christ Jesus. Funny. Even after I got beyond that view, I went to a scholarly conf...

Re: Challenge -- Write Like Paul

Paul writing style is chiastic. That is a sequence leading to a main point and then the sequence is repeated in reverse order. In fact most of the Old and New Testament is written in this style. I call it the Holy Spirit style. https://www.chiasmusxchange.com/2015/02/28/romans-41-13/ Example There ...

Re: Challenge -- Write Like Paul

Paul used run-on sentences too much. He was not a rhetorician. If we are talking about general techniques of persuasion (rather than classical Roman rhetorical writing used in law and politics), Paul demonstrates great rhetorical prowess. The letter to the Romans, for example, uses the Nathan-David...

Re: Challenge -- Write Like Paul

I don't follow why you are doing this. Paul had his own way of writing, speaking, expressing himself, and teaching. Most, if not all of that was given to him by revelation, and therefore becomes the word of God. What is the purpose of us trying to write or speak in the same or similar way as he did...

Re: Challenge -- Write Like Paul

Here's an example of taking part of this passage and saying it the way I might (but without the nuances Paul uses). What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God. 3 Fo...

Challenge -- Write Like Paul

Paul writes in a continuous well-connected fashion. If someone has the term for this style of writing, please share it. The challenge is to write out some ideas (or doctrines) in this tightly interwoven fashion. It is okay, however, just to ask questions or add some more insights into this style. We...

Re: Jesus is God

I don't believe henotheism is a reasonable position - there I no biblical or historical sense I'm aware of that would support this at least in orthodox ancient Judaism. The God of the Bible which the Jews believed in was in no way seen as "their pick" among many in a pantheon of gods or anything so...

Re: Jesus is God

It is mind-boggling that deniers of Jesus being God could actually twist this and pervert it for their own devious purposes. It is even more mind-boggling to think that this would have been so obvious to Thomas and those around him and yet it wasn't addressed at all as a controversy with the EXTREM...

Re: Jesus is God

Homer with the truth BOMB. Jesus called the Father's will "not my will." They are distinct and yet, at the same time, they are each other. Look at the traditional Trinity doctrine: the unity of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead. If each of the three "persons" ...
