I can see that. But if the future is known by God (or by anyone else), wouldn't that mean that the future is settled, and therefore couldn't be otherwise?Homer wrote:I have contended for some time that God's knowledge of future events does not remove free will.

Re: Grudem on Election and Open Theism
I depart from Open theists when it comes to God's knowledge of future events because I believe God knows each person so well he knows exactly what they will do in the future (even though they haven't done it yet). How would your belief fit with this? "I thought, ‘After she has done all these things...

Re: What is Love?
As Steve 7150 pointed out, Jesus said:
"Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13 NASB)

Re: Christians and lying
Well, I don't agree. Lying is lying. If you don't like the food or the sweater, you don't have to say anything unless asked. And if asked, you don't have to answer the question directly. You don't have to say either that the ham was good or too dry. You don't have to say either that the sweater was ...

Re: Christians and lying
Did Jesus ever tell a lie in order not to hurt someone's feelings? It seems to me that He always told it like it is.

Re: Christians and lying
There seems to be a way of lying (deceiving) while what you say is strictly true. Is it a lesser sin to do so? For example, Corrie Ten Boom was hiding Jews during WW2. When the Nazis entered her house and asked, "Where are you hiding the Jews?" She replied, "Under the table." They thought she was ju...

Re: What is Love?
I think biblically speaking love is more sacrificial like Jesus said the greatest love is to lay down your life for your friends. Also faithfulness, loyalty, mercy, justice and of course wanting the best for someone. In other words, love is action and not merely feeling. That understanding seems to fi...

Re: Preferred Bible Translation
The mechanics of the Spanish language just makes a word-for-word translation of 2 English words into 3. To me, the expression "word for word" means that every single word in a passage in one language is translated into a single word in another. The example you gave above is not "word for word." It ...

Re: Preferred Bible Translation
I have heard that there are case endings in Greek and also in Latin. So for example, a single word in Greek or Latin with a certain case ending might mean "of the man". So there's no way of translating that Greek or Latin word with a single English word. It takes three English words to translate it....
