I recall a lecture or series on miracles - that they correlate to various aspect of the Kingdom and aren't random signs of power and authority. I can't seem to find it or remember what series.
Sound familiar to anyone?
No but i think initially miracles were meant to identify Jesus as Messiah.

Re: Angel of the Lord
While reading the Easter narratives in devotions, I noticed something I hadn't noticed before. For those who believe the appearances of the "Angel of the Lord" in the Bible are Christophanies, what do you do with Matthew 28 ? Matthew 28 wrote: 1In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward ...

Re: What are your thoughts concerning universalism?
Is there a scripture somewhere that informs us of after death repentance and salvation? Surely the Universalist can point to scripture concerning this if it is true as they say. Or did Jesus just forget to mention it? Rev 22.17 The Sprit and the Bride invite whomsoever to drink from the water of li...

Re: What are your thoughts concerning universalism?
Kittle's also says "aionios contains not merely the concept of unlimited time without beginning or end, but also of the eternity which transcends time. Even Strong who believed in eternal torment described "aion" as "an age" and "aionios" as "age like" meaning pertaining to the age. It's an undefin...

Re: What are your thoughts concerning universalism?
Greetings Paidion, Based on the words of our Lord: "And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal." How long do you expect to remain in the "state of eternal life"? This is the strongest verse for the eternal punishment doctrine because of the supposed par...

Re: Devil's Advocate
That's an interesting thought - I have not heard a Jew make that argument. Have you? Substitutionary atonement was front and center in their theology. I do see how they might be offended if it was seen as a form of human sacrifice. But, I guess though they might view atonement more as a martyrdom s...

Re: What are your thoughts concerning universalism?
I believe Conditional Immortality is what might otherwise be referred to as annihilationism where only those who are saved survive in the end - others are punished and then destroyed. That being contrasted with the eternal torment view where those who are not saved are also immortal, but instead of...

Re: What are your thoughts concerning universalism?
Is there a distinction between those who believe all will be saved and those who believe that there will be a second chance to respond to the reality of Christ in hell (with destruction on the one hand and new life on the other)? A name for the two groups? All saved is CU Christian Universalism or ...

Re: Devil's Advocate
On another aspect of "harm" of declaring Jesus to be God in the sense of Yahweh (the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob), consider the millions of Jews who may have rejected Christianity not because of Jesus being Lord/Messiah/Son of God or even his resurrection and role as mediator, but because they c...

Re: Jesus is God
It simply does not say (and I might suggest doesn't imply): "In the beginning Jesus was called The Word, and then Jesus was called Jesus when he became flesh." Perhaps i'm missing something but "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us" seems clear? Is this a bad translation because it sounds clear...
