Re: This week's debate between Steve and James White.

I have reflected more on my questions and am even more concerned with the why of Dr. White's final statement. He is too experienced a debater to just have dropped that statement off the cuff and too knowledgeable of how we see the issue to be confused about the consequences, (good or bad), of our vi...

Re: This week's debate between Steve and James White.

"I don't think debates are very helpful. I would prefer just 2 or 3 friends talking about their differences" I actually like debates and think they are the best way to get to the truth. When two, or more, knowledgeable people of more or less equal knowledge debate neither is allowed to get away with...

This week's debate between Steve and James White.

Over the last few days I listened to the debate between Steve and Dr. White. I realize the debate is from over 6 years ago but still found it riveting. I also did some web searching and read comments from both sides from back right after the debate and in general the perception of who had the best p...

Re: Why did Jesus allow the demons to enter the swine?

Hummm, interesting thought. My fallback position would be that there was no evil in the original Creation. I think the Devil was created to be the "tempter" which, even though we associate this title with evil this may not have been the case originally. I also have assumed that demons are fallen ang...

Re: Why did Jesus allow the demons to enter the swine?

: It seems to me that as "Creator of all things" Jesus would have been saddened by what the fall had wrought in all of Creation, including the fallen state of the rebellious angels. Just as what a parent might feel should one of his children go bad. While a person would have to, or at least should,...

Re: Did Augustine corrupt Christianity with Gnostic doctrine

I think the question is more whether Augustine is perhaps the main vector for this doctrine infecting Christianity. I think the video did a reasonable job giving evidence connecting his background of Gnosticism and his incorporating it into his Christian doctrine.

Re: Why did Jesus allow the demons to enter the swine?

"drowning was probably more merciful."

So, once again, was Jesus showing compassion to the pigs?

Did Augustine corrupt Christianity with Gnostic doctrine

I found this about an hour long video which asks and answers the question "Did Augustine corrupt the church with Manichean or Gnostic doctrine?" Although books usually do a more thorough job of documenting something such as this I have also found it difficult to convince the average church goer to r...

Re: Why did Jesus allow the demons to enter the swine?

I'm not suggesting demons are in any way redeemable. And they are certainly enemies of the Kingdom. However, just as in wars this country has fought, with the civil war being a good example, our soldiers have found themselves on opposite sides of the lines from others who could have otherwise been g...
