Re: Not a "People Person"

I lack the social skill of "small talk". That's not even all due to shyness. I just have very little to say about so much. It's something to work on. So do i but i learned that all you have to do is ask folks about themselves.their job, family, life, opinions etc and they will be very happy to fill up...

Re: Not a "People Person"

Thank you for all the good thoughts. Steve wrote: When you are with others, even if you'd rather be alone, it goes without saying that the loving thing to do is to conceal your discomfort as much as possible, so as not to add to the discomfort of others who are with you. Re: William Barclay on "kolasis" and "timoria"

Cannot commit? Really? Not even 5 minutes a week or 5 minutes a month? I'm disappointed! Time can be found if the desire is there.....
How can I respond to your posts if you are not committed?

Re: William Barclay on "kolasis" and "timoria"

Before I get started, Paidion, are you committed to this search for truth about these words? Sometimes we get so many threads going that things get thrown under the bus. We could do it over a longer time period if you would like, I just know that the thread you started is moving like molasses!

Re: Not a "People Person"

Is it possible that extroverts may be required to endure discomfort as well? Perhaps they find it hard to engage in private prayer or studying. "However, loving your neighbor may place certain obligations upon you that are outside your comfort zone". Do you guys have some ideas on what would be outs...

Re: William Barclay on "kolasis" and "timoria"

I just found another page of challenges. Want to help me go through them? I could try. Most of these challenges seem to consist of finding some form of "kolasis" which can be interpreted in particular contexts as being non-corrective punishment. Whether or not that is the case must be determined by...

Paidion, have you thoroughly vetted this issue? I'm really just getting started. I just found another page of challenges. Want to help me go through them?

Re: William Barclay on "kolasis" and "timoria"

Hi Paidion, Thanks for the reply. What do you think of this argument that he made: One of his arguments: "'In Classical Greek usage the noun kolasis describes punishment that may be to the benefit of the one being punished.5 However, a few centuries later the sense that such punishment is temporary ...

One of his arguments: "'In Classical Greek usage the noun kolasis describes punishment that may be to the benefit of the one being punished.5 However, a few centuries later the sense that such punishment is temporary and corrective is no longer dominant. For example, Josephus speaks about Herod’s ex...
