Re: The Gospel of John and the trinity

John is often turned to to prove that Jesus is God. The question I have is this, is that the actual intention of the author? It seems that the author really wants to be clear in his intent on his purpose of the book and the identity of Jesus when he makes it very plain in 20:31 "but these are writt...

Re: Jewish View of AD 70

Among legends related to Johanan ben Zakkai and his escape from the Roman siege of Jerusalem is a claim that he forecasted that Vespasian would rise to the status of emperor and destroy the temple. The Talmud contains the following record of an exchange that took place after Johanan b. Zakkai addres...

Re: Jewish View of AD 70

In response to the question posited by the original post, the Babylonian Talmud (Yoma 9b) alleges that the Second Temple was destroyed for senseless hatred (שנאת חנם). The record adds that such baseless hatred is tantamount to committing “the three sins of idolatry, immorality, and bloodshed” (שלש ע...

Re: Sin against the body

Hi Roy. My initial input was aimed to respond to your comment:
You cannot find ONE example of a non-virgin (not including widow) girl taking a husband and it be a righteous union.
Thank you for the invitation, but I don't intend to participate in your continuing discussion.

Re: Sin against the body

Hmm. Roy, I presume that the reason you held back from linking to the last article is related to other ideas that the writer espouses. I certainly hope so. The following quote is bizarre enough of an example as to require no further commentary: There are even some in Israel Identity today who claim ...

Re: Sin against the body

Hi Roy, Your suggestion (or rather the suggestion of the article you linked to) that זנה (Josh. 2:1) might be properly translated as innkeeper or a woman who fed people would seem more plausible if I had less confidence in the accuracy of the Epistle to the Hebrews and James. Such a reading also app...

Re: Sin against the body

You cannot find ONE example of a non-virgin (not including widow) girl taking a husband and it be a righteous union. The Scriptures don't often make explicit reference to which unions were considered righteous or not. However, accounting for notable mention in the genealogy of Christ, Rahab (i.e. "...

Re: Heb.1:8?

Hi Jeremiah (and others), Since the subject of this thread is Hebrews 1:8 I'm still musing on the near context of the verse. Steve Gregg pointed out that Heb. 1:10-12 quotes from Psalm 102:25-27 (LXX) which shows that the citation refers to "my God" (Ps. 102:24; MT: v. 25). Both the header (included...
