Re: The Baptism of Everett
Homer, as you know, you and I agree on the subject of baptism. I was wondering what you make of whole denominations who think baptism is unnecessary, for example, the Salvation Army. I can understand God rejecting someone who refuses to be baptized, thus showing that he is not a disciple of Christ, ...

Re: Languages
I wish I could say that Canadians are bilingual (after all they live in an officially bilingual country), but in fact only 35% of Canadians can speak more than one language. But worse only 17.4% of Canadians can speak both official languages, and more than half of these reside in the province of Que...

Re: When is sin, sin for you but not for others?
This may be the passage for which you are looking: As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who ...

Re: Languages
I discovered this also. I do believe it does modern Greek. I asked it to translate "word" into Greek and it gave "λεξη" (lexā), a word which is not found in the New Testament, but "λεξη" led me to think of "lexicon", and so I decided to write "lexicon" with Greek characters (λεξικον) and asked it to...

Re: The Raising of Lazarus
It's true that the gospel of John is more disputed as to authorship than any of the other three. Yet, I think internal evidence as well as early ascription to John, provide considerable evidence for the apostle John as author. If not, then the writer pretended to be John the apostle, and thus the bo...

Re: Languages
Well, since we're into translation here, I might as well translate my anglicized Greek message to Homer as well: For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened wit...

Re: Roots of the Rich Man & Lazarus Parable
I think that Jesus was using, as a basis for his parable, a belief about hades which was common among the Jews of His day. Indeed, if you examine the Discourse Concerning Hades , by Josephus, the Jewish Historian of the first century, you will find a striking resemblance to Jesus' description in The...

Re: Can God know the Future?
Hmm, this seems to be a problem with your view. But how can other open theists teach that some things are known and some are not? That doesn't seem consistent to me. At least your view is consistent. I don't know - you make very good points for your view, but the whole of Revelation is a progressio...

Re: Proof that the Holy Spirit is personal
Dean, I still have a bit of reservation concerning my concession. I still have found no masculine referent for the masculine pronoun "ους" in Galatians 4:19. Could this be a case where its antecedent is the neuter noun "τεκνια", and agrees in gender not grammatically but rather "naturally" in that t...

Re: More thoughts about αἰωνιος κολασις
Well I did a search of the New Testament for any verses which contain both "πυρετος" (fever) and "εχω" (have, has), and found only one. That one definitely does NOT say "a fever has a man." However, you have roused my curiosity, and so I did a search for all occurrences of "εχω" (or "echo" if you wis...
