Re: Talbott's Presentation
Talbott brought up a good point in that the sinners in hell are experiencing refining punishment which destroys the sin within them. God ordained for the consequences of sin to bring about a point of surrender of the will. God is therefore working on the sinner in hell and drawing him to Himself. A...

Re: Talbott's Presentation
I agree that man's will has a part to play but I'm not sure if man would continue to sin and reject God if God were to give the sinner an unlimited amount of chances to repent in hell. Also, if the fires of hell purge sin out of the individual, it would appear that the sinner would have more of a pr...

Re: Talbott's Presentation
It appears the biggest issue is how we reconcile libertarian freedom in light of God's victory. Talbott brought up a good point in that the sinners in hell are experiencing refining punishment which destroys the sin within them. God ordained for the consequences of sin to bring about a point of surr...

Talbott's Presentation
In my recent post titled "Impartial Love" I tried to convey a logical problem I was encountering when analyzing Calvinism, Arminianism, and Christian Universalism. I came across a debate on the three views of hell in which Thomas Talbott defended the universal reconciliation position. I was shocked ...

Natural disasters/suffering in light of God's sovereignty
I was thinking about this recently and wondered if I'd be able to give a good reason to a nonbeliever if they asked this question: If God knows the future and has power to refrain natural disasters from occurring, why does He allow them to occur in the first place? The Calvinist could simply say tha...

Re: Difference between Calvinism, Open Theism, and Arminianism
The only thing missing is some sort of absolute certainty (which I'm not sure how classical arminians... as defined in this article... accomplish without becoming determinists. The insistance on absolute certainty is, in my opinion, in opposition to the life of faith that we are called to Matt, so ...

Re: Impartial Love
Paul appeared to use parallelism also.
If the "many" in verse 19 refers to the entire human race in the first mention, should we not see the "many" in the second mention as referring to the entire human race also?

Re: Impartial Love
I think that the problems you voiced are solved by either 1 or both of these factors 1. People will only be judged by the light they've been given in this life 2. People will have opportunity to respond to fuller revelation after death Is it your suggestion that these 2 factors are not compatible w...
