Re: Debating an Atheist
I think Truman sounded like someone addicted to certainty. Since life doesn't offer absolute certainty as an option... he has to create it out of thin air by insisting on a consensus, on the craziness of other views, etc. It seems to me that Truman wants to believe that Christianity has been destro...

Re: Debating an Atheist
Great show Steve! I enjoyed the exchange of ideas and would like to point out that Truman unknowingly proved the very thing he was arguing against. Allow me to demonstrate: 1.) Truman made many appeals to absolutes : By arguing that one worldview is superior to another, you have to appeal to a fixed...

Re: How does meticulous providence work?
What I really wonder about is how Calvinists explain the means by which God brings about the exact thoughts in the minds of every human that he decreed they think. There may be exceptions, but every Calvinist I've heard talk about God's sovereignty stresses that God's sovereignty necessitates his a...

Re: How does meticulous providence work?
Hi bro,
I am not a Calvinist, but I have had interactions with many and can tell you that the phrase means and ends is used to explain a lot in Calvinism.

Re: Open Theism and Determinism
Let us modify the sentence: Sarah will freely choose to eat a chocolate at 8 P.M. tomorrow night. Okay. I accept the modification. If the sentence is now true , can Sarah freely choose NOT to eat a chocolate at 8 P.M. tomorrow night? Hi Paidion and Matthew, Would you guys agree that some future eve...

Re: Calvinist comments on the warning passages in Hebrews.
I certainly don't want to downplay the degree to which Hebrews presents challenges for the Calvinist perspective. It seems to me that parts of Hebrews, particularly the "falling away" parts, are real issues for Calvinism. But I don't see how a warning that if you do x then y will happen is dishones...

Re: Calvinist comments on the warning passages in Hebrews.
I'm not sure I see the problem, Brody. You yourself flag what I think one of the Calvinist points is. God decrees the means as well as the ends. So biblical warnings such as these are part of the mechanisms by which God chooses to effect some of His decrees. CThomas Hi Thomas, If God has decreed th...

Calvinist comments on the warning passages in Hebrews.
I was listening to "The dividing line" broadcast over at aomin.org and heard James White say the following regarding the warning passages from Hebrews.. http://www.aomin.org/podcasts/20130815.mp3 ..(Scroll over to about 1:32:00 to hear the conversation). In short, he basically says that the warnings...

I agree Bro.
The link I posted shows just how far our society has fallen in terms of knowing what a "man of God" really is...
