Re: It's A Thin Line Between Love and Hate...
Rick, I can appreciate your situation more than you know. No professing Christian in today's age is going to be exempt from such treatment. Perhaps you will find comfort in knowing that I, and many others, experience the same thing with you. Let's encourage one another in perseverance and pray that ...

Re: Loving the Podcast
I will gladly echo the praise Matt has given. My day always begins with a cup of coffee and the previous day's podcast, since I'm unable to listen live. It's great to kick off the day with an hour of theological questions and answers. :) I want to thank Steve G, his financial supporters, and those w...

Re: It's A Thin Line Between Love and Hate...
Steve, should we also sing Psalm 137:9 -- "Blessed be he that shall take and dash thy little ones against the rock." Now, I realize that smashing children is a common OT judgement phrase (2 Kings 8:12, Hosea 13:16, Isaiah 13:16, Nahum 3:10) but would we take Pslam 137:9 as a prescription for Christi...

Re: It's A Thin Line Between Love and Hate...
What is the precedent for gathering Christian doctrine from the Psalms? Jesus told his disciples to go and teach people to obey the things He commanded. Biblical poetry may contain prophetic truth but doesn't seem useful in interpreting the words of Jesus. I think a better approach is to start with ...

The Future: Open or Closed?
Steve responded to a call about open theism last Thursday and he made a decent case for why Open Theists hold the view of an open future. However, I've been moving toward this view in recent months and it's not because of the reasons Steve gave on his program. So I'd like to give the main reason I'm...

Re: God and Governments
TK, I believe the scriptures you cited are referring to God ordaining institutions of government in order that justice be executed on Earth. This does not mean God's endorsement is upon each individual leader, which is what your friends were pointing out. Here in the States, we have a form of govern...

Re: Is Theism Rational?
NORTH, you seem to be arguing that since there are intelligent and rational people in the church then theism must be rational by implication. Dawkins has stated that Christians like John Polkinghorne and Francis Collins impress him so it's not genuine for him to say theists are not rational. He know...

Re: Satan and that Ezekiel Passage
TK, Greg Boyd agrees with the traiditonal view. I've actually debated him on this issue through e-mail and was not convinced. His main arguement was that the oldest Rabbinc tradition interpreted those passages as being about Satan and the fact that the Prince of Persia reference in Daniel 10 seems t...
