Re: Literally 6 Days

Hi Dwight, Thanks for taking the time to interact. Dwight: I believe God has afforded us the same respect in His word, so that we can have the best chance of understanding Him. Obviously He uses many different tools of speech - metaphors, parables, hyperbole, poetry, etc. I am not an expert on all t...

Re: Literally 6 Days

Hi Dwight, God obviously knows our nature. He knows that we will take Genesis literally Yes he does know our nature. But how do you know that he knows we'll take Genesis literally? Many in this thread have attested otherwise. unless Genesis itself gives us a reason not to Again, many in this thread ...

Re: Why did Jesus stop reading?

Hey Paidion! No. I am not returning to discuss anything on this forum. I'll speak for at least myself and say that your wisdom and insight is missed. I learned much from reading your thoughts on spiritual matters. Recently, I read a book across which I recently came, called "Show Them No Mercy—4 vie...

Re: Literally 6 Days

Here's a video relevant to this discussion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FmO2XKMe6g Lennox addresses many of the topics raised in this thread: Use of the Hebrew word Yom , old earth/young earth, literalness of the creation narrative, etc. It's a bit lengthy but worth it and is incredibly edifyin...

Re: Heretics? - and now Greg Boyd!

I kind of warmed to him. Here he is street preaching. He dealt with this woman brilliantly in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_6HfEoORuM I've seen this and other videos of him open air preaching. He handles himself very well usually, like he did in this video. Todd is a big turn off fo...

Re: Church Authority

I would love to do the face-to-face coffee thing, but that could only happen if you live near Denver. I'm in Nor Cal. If you ever find yourself in the Sacramento area let me know! Likewise I'll drop you a line if I find myself near Denver. What does your church look like? I'm not certain what you'r...

Re: Church Authority

There's likely more common ground than we realize but it may take discussing it over coffee face to face to get there. Blessings to you, Dwight.

Re: Church Authority

Again I must return to 1 Timothy 3:1-5. You stated that "there is no reference that speaks of an individual elder alone overseeing any congregation." But verse 4 says "He must be one manages his own household well, keeping his children under control with all dignity (but if a man does not know how ...

Re: Church Authority

Matthew 25:45 "Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when He comes. Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all His possessions." Matthe...

Re: Mark 16 & 1 John 4 on Baptism

I'd be interested in that summary. Textual criticism and disputed passages are academic bits of Christianity that I always find fascinating. I'd love to say I'd read the book but my shelf is already too full of books I need to get to.
