Re: My Preterist Journey (so far + video)

The following link is a very good explanation of what a resurrection body might be made from in 1st Cor. 15. My only criticism is that when you hear him scramble to say "spirit, but not disembodied spirit" I wish he's pointed out that the only reason modern people are confused is that they are comin...

Re: Dating Revelation

Do you have any late date evidence not based on Irenaeus' comment?

Re: My Preterist Journey (so far + video)

I think that the examples you give proves less than you think. All of the physical functions you describe were done successfully by angels at some point in the Old Testament. The fact that they ate or were touched by people didn't necessarily mean that they had resurrected flesh bodies. And, nothing...

Re: My Preterist Journey (so far + video)

Unfortunately, we don't have any explicit statement in scripture about the composition of Christ's body after his resurrection (how "changed", exactly, was his body since it could walk through walls, etc.), or any potential change in its composition after the ascension. But, we do have some pretty s...

Re: Dispensationalism

According to Charles Ryrie, a renowned dispensational scholar, dispensationalism can be defined by two main points. First, you have to interpret scripture as literally as possible. Second, there will never be a merger between the church and Israel. Though I think the first point is hermeneutically i...

Re: Dispensationalism

There is no doubt that there are different dispensations or eras in the scripture. The question is how they are interpreted to provide a framework for explaining history. My primary problem with dispensationalists is that they assert that the current era is one that is not foreseen by scripture befo...

Re: My Preterist Journey (so far + video)

Hi Doug, I think the pneuma/body concept works with Paul's words, but my question would be how likely is it that Paul's view of "spirit" would align more closely to a Greek Stoic view than to a Jewish view (as expressed in the OT and in the intertestamental period)? In my mind, it's kind of like as...

Re: My Preterist Journey (so far + video)

I'm very sympathetic to skepticism about interpreting Revelation. Though I think the preterist view of it is coherent and fits in with the rest of preterism in scripture, it's certainly a bad idea to claim to be the guy finally understands it perfectly. I prefer to approach preterism from the point ...

If you're a Perriman fan, you must read his take on Romans. It's a real game changer.

Re: Mercy or Vindication

I'd say that though God would like our attitudes to be forgiving in order to approximate his patience, eventually the bill will come due. Most people get hung up on the first part of the parallelism below and miss the punch line. Though God is long suffering, eventually there will be a day of the Lo...
