one of chris hitchen's common objections
hey y'all, i was thinking about a something hitchens said in many of his debates with christians. i won't attempt to quote him but it went something like this: ...and then when heaven finally says "well thats enough of that" and God plops his son down in the middle eastern desert where everyone's il...

Re: God's Creation of Souls
whats up jr, Read this again; "I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, He is not the God of the dead but of the living" Maybe the subject of Matt 22 is about the resurrection, but that’s not the subject of Ex.3. the resurrection is indeed the subject of that passage, and...

Re: God's Creation of Souls
good afternoon jriccitelli, i don't really see paul expressing any difficulty in his analogy, when he said "perhaps of wheat or some other grain..." i think he's simply giving a little detail to what still remains a simple analogy. i think gleaning an immaterial spirit out of v.37 or the passage in ...

Re: Baptism of the Apostles
I guess I don't see whether or not one's discipleship began during the physical lifetime of Jesus to be the thing that matters with reference to one's baptism i was contrasting him with the others in acts 19. where they didn't have the whole story, andrew at least had it all available to him, It is...

Re: Baptism of the Apostles
hello kyle, in acts 19 it describes disciples who had never heard of the holy spirit. they didn't have all the information as it were. from this to then turn and say john's baptism was useless carte blanche seems hasty. andrew, however became a disciple of Christ in jesus' lifetime. for jesus to tel...

Re: Baptism of the Apostles
Ahhhh... But was Paul "newly reborn" when he gave his testimony to the Jews as recorded in Acts 22? no he wasn't then, but i was referring to the setting of the testimony he was giving to the jews. i take your point though. do you think being born of water as jesus spoke of in john 3 refers to wate...

Re: Baptism of the Apostles
perry, cool man, i don't know. my guess is the significance if any has something to do with the intentions of the evangelists. the four gospels are concerned with jesus, whereas in acts where paul's baptism is recorded, the author's attention has turned to the apostles specifically. i'd like to hear...

Re: Baptism of the Apostles
i rechecked, in the first chapter of john's gospel we're told: after two of his disciples hearing john the baptist say "behold the lamb of God," they turned to follow jesus. one of these two was andrew. i admit its not explicit, but i would not think it eisegesis to deduce that both of john's discip...

Re: Baptism of the Apostles
in the book of acts there is a definite record of paul's baptism after the scales fall from his eyes. i think its a reasonable deduction to assume the other apostles were. it would seem that some of the twelve were disciples of john the baptist prior to following jesus. if this is true, then it defi...
