Re: My Case for eternal Hell
Hi Steve, You wrote: Fathers ought to forgive their children, and also they ought to forgive other people's children, if Jesus' teachings are to be our guide. This generous spirit, which we are to have even to our enemies and persecutors, is recommended for the express purpose of our conforming to t...

Re: Is it more important not to say it?
RV, I ask exactly the same question about God telling people this and that. We need to be in the same bible study - I have the same problem (that is, if its a problem). Perhaps the problem is with the folks who do not wish to examine their beliefs. And if they are unwilling to do so, they may be mis...

Re: What is the deal with healing?
Hi Steve, In reply to Michelle you wrote: I think it is because salvation is guaranteed to those who have faith. That makes it more simple than believing for healing, which is not guaranteed. Does this mean that you understand the passage in James 5 to refer to spiritual sickness? In the Greek, it c...

Re: Those who`ve never heard
Many years ago I read in a bible handbook (Haley's, Unger's ?) the idea that after the Law was given to the Jews, non-jews could still have a rightful relationship with God, as Abraham and others of the ancients had, namely through the ancient patriarchical system of worship. That made sense to me, ...

Re: What is the deal with healing?
Hi TK, You wrote: But if we think that it is God's will that someone not be healed, how can we then ever have true faith? We are always forced to hedge our bets by throwing in faith-killing phrases like "if it be your will." I'd rather start from the premise that God wants to heal, that it is not Go...

Re: What is the deal with healing?
The way I look at it is this-- if we don't EXPECT or BELIEVE that people will really be healed when we pray with them, even miraculously so, then I don't think we will have very good results. Of course we know that everyone does not get healed, but that is not God's fault . We all die, and most of ...

Re: Righteous Anger
Hi Michelle, You wrote: Well, Homer, like I said earlier, I probably need to refine my definitions a bit and use the same words, the same way, everyone else is. What you called "mercy" is what I meant by "compassion." I am probably confusing things as much as anyone here. Looking at the lexicons, th...

Hi Michelle, You wrote: Homer wrote: As Michelle wrote, we may have multiple emotions simultaneously. I didn't say that, although I suppose it's true, but I'm not really sure. You wrote that you felt compassion and sadness regarding child abuse. I took that as two simultaneous emotions. I don't unde...

Hi SteveF, You wrote: In regards to Eph 4, I think anger being permissive makes more sense. Not in the sense of it being righteous though, but in the sense that when the emotion arises it’s not sin if you deal with it. I tend to agree with you. And you went on to write: It seems to me that much of o...

Re: Righteous Anger
On Oct 8 Michelle posted, responding to Matt: Matt: In other words, using the previously mentioned scenario, if I find out a great injustice has been done against a child, my natural (and wholesome) emotion will be anger. But I can 'put away' this anger by contacting the appropriate authorities! Mic...
