Re: Reflections on re-reading these threads
Hi Homer, I don't know whether Hitler or Hefner were ever professing Christians prior to becoming the evil men they became. Possibly not. And you are right in saying that Jesus defines His sheep as those who hear His voice and follow Him. However, Isaiah speaks of some of God's sheep who do not foll...

Re: The Foreknowledge of God
Yeah, NJ, it does take some sorting out. I do not take the Calvary Chapel middle view. I have had to work through the relevant passages myself over the years. That's what I would recommend everyone do for himself. The main guideline I would suggest is, as you progress toward a conclusion about any d...

Re: Memo to Jonathan Edwards
Actually (not that it matters), those were references to Monte Python. Maxwell Smart's shtick was, "Would you believe..."

Re: Memo to Jonathan Edwards
That always reminded me of Agur's, "Three things are too wonderful for me...no, make that four !" (Prov.30:18; cf. 30:21, 29; 6:16 my paraphrase) and Amos' "for three transgressions...or is it four ...?" (Amos 1:3, 6, 9, 11, 13; 2:1, 4, 6 my paraphrase). [with apologies to all those culturally-depri...

You didn't say that correctly. Its: "Noooooooooooooooobuddy expects the Spanish Inquisition!"
If you make another mistake like that, you will be sentenced to..........THE COMFY CHAIR!

Re: The Foreknowledge of God
Hi NJ, I know that the verses you have supplied are not the total case for total depravity, and the inability of the unregenerate man to choose God, but a couple of your verses are among the best for the case. I would suggest, however, that you included some verses which say nothing to your point. O...

Re: Conditional Immortality Links
Harry Blamires was a friend of and a student under C.S. Lewis. He wrote a book about Heaven and Hell, in which he assumed the traditional view to be correct. I thought he made a good point that would also possibly answer your question for the extinctionist. Blamires wrote: "A Hitler, a Himmler, an E...

Re: Memo to Jonathan Edwards
You doubt the authenticity of this document? Would you like to see the carbon-14 test results? Actually, it was channeled to me, just this morning (while I was in the shower) by the disembodied (and apparently eternally-tormented) shade of Edwards' secretary (of course, I wrapped myself in a towel w...

Re: Thanks to Steve
The technology is there. I just don't know a thing about it. These things usually get done in this ministry because someone who understands such things feels led to step forward and initiate media that never occurred to me, or at least that I would have had no idea how to implement.
