Re: Is "Christian-Democrat" an oxymoron? ~ Video
It is not. It is. oxymoron; noun: a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction. I think the caller's intent was to point out that the "contradictory terms" in this case are The Democrat Party Platform and The Bible . He wondered how a Christian could support both...

Re: Moses' Depiction of God vs Jesus' Depiction
John Stuart Mill was a philosopher, and possibly not a Christian—but non-Christians can reason, too. Possibly not a Christian? It sounds like you're saying there's a good chance Mill was a Christian, but just possibly not. I have found no evidence indicating Mill ever was possibly a Christian at al...

Re: Socialism
The two economic systems under discussion are ultimately defined by the answer to the question "who has the right to decide how any given resource is used?" This is the same thing as establishing how property rights ought to be defined and recognized. I always appreciate your posts, Thrombomodulin....

Re: Socialism
...capitalism is not a man-made system, but a default where there is no government interference in the free exercise of stewardship and conscience. That's right, and thank you for your input, Steve. And thank you for all of your excellent posts on this thread. As has been pointed out in this discus...

Re: Socialism
The primary subject of Jesus' teachings was God's Kingdom. He taught us to pray for its advancement. He told Pilot that His Kingdom is not of this world , meaning that its principles do not derive from man but from God. He taught us not to love the world, meaning the ways of man -- man's various phi...

Re: About Abortion
Thank you for the clarification, Paidion. It was as I had assumed, but wasn't sure. I agree with you that abortion is murder, but I respectfully disagree with about all of the rest of your comments, especially this one: I do not believe anyone should be penalized for wrongdoing of any kind—including...

Re: Eat, drink and be merry
According to Ecclesiastes, life is meaningless anyway. In which case, the maxim applies. Eat, drink and be merry. Not everything Solomon said or did was wise. In fact, much of what he did was quite foolish. And it was his foolishness, to a great extent, that led to the civil war that brought an end...

Re: About Abortion
Paidion said: I, as one who does not believe anyone does should receive punishment(in the sense of "penalties." See my signature statement), of course, do not agree to it for women who have abortions either, (though I do regard abortions as murder) . These are two very confusing sentences, brother. ...

Re: God Killed the Deceived & Did Nothing to the Deceiver
With Him are strength and prudence. The deceived and the deceiver are His. (Job 12:16) Thank you for your informative and edifying comment, Steve. The younger prophet was a good man and a true prophet, but a somewhat weak one. He should have known better. He should have passed this test. But he did...
