Re: An Arminian Piper / Driscoll / Sproul / Keller?

I agree with what I think is the spirit of Doug's comment. I can think of plenty of mainstream non-Calvinist teachers, preachers, authors, etc. Steve Gregg, Ravi Zacharias, William Lane Craig, NT Wright, Bruxy Cavey, Greg Boyd, Frank Turek, Alister McGrath, John Lennox, CS Lewis (Yes he's dead but h...

Re: Why get emotional about eschatology?

Hi remade, The first time I was introduced to non-dispensational eschatology was around 5-6 years ago. It was a prophecy class that the pastor of the church I attended was teaching. I remember walking into the first meeting and thinking to myself “He better not try and convince me that dispensationa...

Re: The Fear of God-has the Church Lost It?

How about supporting the fear of God regardless of what type of theology teaches it, because it is a concept taught from Genisis to Revelation. Well, if you play out the implication of that statement to its logical conclusion it appears your saying that we should support the "fear of God" no matter...

Re: The Fear of God-has the Church Lost It?

And I don't think the fear should be limited to just awe and reverence. When Jesus told His own disciples to fear the one (presumably God) who can cast a person into Gehenna , to destroy both the body and soul (Luke 12 & Matt 10), I think His point is pretty clear. God is our judge, and He created ...

Re: The Fear of God-has the Church Lost It?

I do agree the concept is too often avoided. But that's actually BECAUSE (in my opinion) a poor definition was used for so long. I agree the concept is often avoided and the reason I feel that way is because I've rarely heard it addressed throughout my lifetime by local churches I've attended. One ...

Re: A Compatibilistic Understanding of Free Will

I ran across this video the other day and think it may be relevant to this discussion. The first 3 minutes directly address free will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDhHwfVwMwc Bruxy Cavey and Greg Boyd are Open Theists but I think this is a decent and simple explanation of our free wills working ...

Re: The Shack

It is so sad that his parents were in New Guinea to bring the gospel to the native people and yet they forgot their first mission field - their own children. He even said that his parents and the other missionaries believed that they had to 'sacrifice" their children for the sake of bringing the go...

Re: Clean and Unclean Animals

So what constitutes food? Leviticus 11 seems to tell us what is and what is not food. Leviticus 11 doesn't give a definition of what is and what isn't food. Maybe you meant food that's permissible for us to eat. Even then it's not telling "us" that. It tells the nation of Israel, while under the Ol...

Re: Literally 6 Days

Hi Dwight, I don't want to derail your topic but I feel we're headed in that direction with this talk about clean/unclean foods. If you'd rather I start another thread to discuss this (and you're interested in continuing the conversation) I'm happy to do so. Otherwise I'll keep responding here. We'r...
