Re: The Holy Spirit: Person or Power?

Yes, an interesting discussion. But what must be believed about the Holy Spirit in order to be saved (or be a Christian, if you prefer)? Of the various biblical statements about what must be believed, I do not recall the Holy Spirit being mentioned, only that the Spirit is promised to believers. I r...

Re: Is it a sin to not go to church?

Hi Michelle, You ask challenging questions! That is good. You asked: What would be different if, for instance (and I'm using a true life situation) I was talking with a friend about a life changing decision and said, "let's take it to the Lord and seek His will," but we were just talking, Now your q...

Re: Righteous Anger

Hi SteveF, Regarding Ephesians 4:26 and Psalm 4:4, according to Karl Braune's exegetical and critical comments in Lange's Commentary, Paul quotes the verse exactly as it is in the LXX. In the commentary on verse 4:4 in the Psalm, an explanation by Riehm is given of the meaning: You may continue to b...

Re: Church of the firstborn.

Hi Paul, The reason I asked about bible study is I thought you had inquired about a local one some time ago when we met at Steve's visit to Albany. Here is a link to a short article by Tim Warner that is very close to my own view: http://www.pfrs.org/baptism/index.html Perhaps you can tell me if the...

Re: Righteous Anger

SteveF wrote: After Paul quoted from Psalm 4 (Be angry and do not sin) he immediately instructed us to put away our anger. Was he telling us to "Be angry" or was he simply acknowledging the reality of anger and what we should do about it. "Be angry" and "do not sin" are both imperatives in the Greek...

Re: Steve's Article "What is Church"

Hi Steve, I thought of another question regarding your statement quoted in my previous post: B. Commitment to a group of Christians in one congregation in a way that preempts commitment to the entire church outside that congregation is wrongheaded and is described by Paul as infantile and carnal (I ...

Re: Is it a sin to not go to church?

Well said Matt! If I found the "perfect" church where all was as I thought it ought to be, I would no doubt be all by myself because my wife wouldn't think much of it.

Re: Is it a sin to not go to church?

Hi Christopher, Earlier you wrote: BTW, it’s hard for me to imagine this being an “oral sermon” as you suggested, mainly because how the letter ends I picked this idea up from the book I mentioned earlier, "A Gathered People". Looking at the comments in the Expositor's Commentary, Introduction to He...

Re: Righteous Anger

Hi Steve,

Don't have time right now to look into the sermon, but what did he say about Jesus driving the money changers out of the temple? Was Jesus anger unrighteous or was He only seeming to be angry?

God bless, Homer
