Re: Jesus' God was not the Trinity, why is yours?

Paidion,

What is the difference in your mind between being divine and being a god?

Re: Jesus' God was not the Trinity, why is yours?

But Jesus' words while here on earth reflect his status at that point in time when he had "emptied Himself". How do you exegete Isaiah 9:6 where we see "everlasting Father" as a descriptor of the child who was born to us?

Re: Jesus' God was not the Trinity, why is yours?

John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:14 - And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 10:30 - I and [my] Father are one. Isaiah ...

Re: Despot of the Oikas

Darin, I overlooked something in 5:14: 1 Timothy 5:14 New American Standard Bible (NASB) 14. Therefore, I want younger widows to get married, bear children, keep house , and give the enemy no occasion for reproach The word translated "younger", the Grk. neoteras , is translated correctly but "widows...

Re: Despot of the Oikas

Darin,

If we grant that the word means "rule over" it seems to me to be irrelevant to the complementarian/egalitarian argument given that the context clearly points to the subject of widows.

Re: True Forgiveness

Hi Paidion, I have a couple questions for you. In consideration of this: Forgiveness vs. Restoration of Trust By Rick Warren “Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord” (Romans 12:19 NIV). Who has a be...

Re: True Forgiveness

Hi Paidion, You wrote, However, if the employee will not restore his position because he cannot trust him not to repeat the offence, that would indicate that he does not really believe that the employee has repented ( had a genuine change of heart and mind). For if he did, he would not repeat the of...

Re: Love and the Trinity

Backwoodsman,

Interesting point re space and time!

It seems to me that if God is love and the greatest expression of that love is to lay down your life for another, it would be gratuitous to lay your life down where there is no need. The argument as stated would not apply where there was no sin.

Re: True Forgiveness

Hi Paidion, In the example you gave I could agree with you. By repaying the employer, repentance was demonstrated to likely be genuine. However, I would insist that forgiving a person and restoring trust are not the same thing. Consider another example: a person operates a day care for children and ...

Re: True Forgiveness

Hi Paidion, Could you elaborate on what you mean by this statement: 3. Your relationship with the offender is restored. If your relationship included being in authority over the person (say employer or supervisor) and he embezzled or abused/molested another person, would "restoring the relationship"...
