Dwight: Do you have that definition handy, so we can see it?

That's not a new use of the word; it goes back at least as far as Webster's 1828 edition.

Re: Christians, children and fantasy literature

I'm not interested in exploring or defending whether or not JK Rowling possess genuine Christian faith, but to say her novels lack Christian thought and motivations isn't true. Here's a link to an article that addresses the Christian imagery in the HP series: http://www.mtv.com/news/1572107/harry-p...

Re: The Days of Creation

Just a little bit of research will eliminate the confusion caused by all the misinformation that gets spread around on this topic. A respected Hebrew dictionary, the Brown, Driver, Briggs lexicon says that the Hebrew word "yom" in Genesis 1 means an ordinary day. You must not have checked BDB to see...

Re: Can we PLEASE get a few more admins/mods now?

What exactly is a moderator supposed to do? Or an admin? In cases like the one in hand, they ban the spammer and delete the spam. The more there are who can do that, the sooner it gets done. Another (even better) way to deal with spam is to set new users to "moderated" until they make a legitimate ...

Can we PLEASE get a few more admins/mods now?

I've made this suggestion several times before, and it's been ignored. No new moderators, no explanation why it's not as good an idea as it looks to me. There's an active spammer as I type this who is at 39 posts and counting in the last half hour. Usually it takes the better part of a day for an ad...

Re: Other life in the Universe

It seems that reasoning would have to apply to anyone other than the Israelites to whom it was addressed, terrestrial or extraterrestrial. So if it says there's no extraterrestrial intelligent life, then it also says there's no non-Israelite life. What am I missing?

Re: Why get emotional about eschatology?

I have read a commentary on this verse that says that the Greek word for "generation" can refer to people of the same stock or family, or even of a whole nation. Could the word "generation" here refer to the whole Jewish nation? That usually comes from dispensationalists, as it has to be true for t...
