Re: Hank Hanegraaff converts to Orthodoxy

The Big difference is the Spirituality of the Church. Where Rome took the west down a path in which the Lord came to restore Honor (Anslem) and pay the price to restore the Honor of God, which lead to legal doctrine of penal substitution in the west (Which btw, seems to mean that God sent His Son to...

Re: Is Cremation Okay, or Not?

Jim- two inquiries: 2) your view suggests or implies that martyrs burned at the stake or Christians burned up in fires or blown up by bombs or drowned and consumed by fishes may be in trouble. No. Not at all. It is expected that pagans, heretics and others who have rejected God and the resurrection...

Re: Eastern Orthodox Church

The Orthodox have a concept of the atonement which differs sharply from that of Roman Catholicism and Protestants (including evangelicals). Here is a Youtube of Hany Mina Mikhail — Part One of twelve discourses: Hany Mina Mikhail I like the link, but that is from a Coptic Orthodox. They, in the vie...

Re: Is Cremation Okay, or Not?

I haven't looked at Steve's answer yet. But in my opinion it doesn't matter what happens to the body. Your dead body is not you; it is but physical flesh, bones, and innards. Some bodies are consumed by fire; some are blown apart by explosives; others rot in the ground. The person will be resurrect...

Re: ‘Together 2016’ Organizer Meets With ‘Pope Francis’ to U

Alan- What about the idea that Mary was born w/o original sin (Immaculate conception?) and that she was sinless during her lifetime? I have heard this is a doctrine held by Catholics but perhaps not. I also think there is a belief that she was taken up to heaven bodily (the Assumption, I believe). ...

Re: ‘Together 2016’ Organizer Meets With ‘Pope Francis’ to U

I meant to add that the "hellishness" of the mass is the idea of the repeated sacrifice on Calvary. I thought He died once for all (Rom 6:10). Of course I don't think anything of the sort is really happening at the mass; but that fact that millions believe this is pretty morbid. Wow, talk about a m...

Re: Church fathers view on hell

Jim, Good post. If we consider that a "metaphorical" view of eternal punishment (held by many theologians) would entail God's permanent withdrawal (outer darkness) for those who reject Him, I do not see any fault on God's part. I recall reading some of the Saints, I will see if I can find it, that ...

Re: Church fathers view on hell

.....Thus it is the Church’s spiritual teaching that God does not punish man by some material fire or physical torment. God simply reveals Himself in the risen Lord Jesus in such a glorious way that no man can fail to behold His glory. It is the presence of God’s splendid glory and love that is the ...
