Paul's great omission

Acts 17- Paul in Athens. they wished to know what was this 'new teaching' of his, this 'strange teaching'. they delighted in hearing and telling of new things. What an opportunity to unpack the Trinity! But no, Paul didn't believe in any such thing. Read vs 22-31 Paul clearly tells them that in spit...

Re: "Being in the form (morphe) of God" Philippians 2:6

"To me it sounds like "the essence" of God , since God is Spirit & Jesus was a man I don't connect how it refers to outward appearance." The actions and teachings of Jesus reflected and imaged the Father. Jesus exegetes the Father through his own life that was seen and observed. That was what I thin...

Re: "Being in the form (morphe) of God" Philippians 2:6

When Jesus said "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”

That is talking about ‘form' imo.

Re: "Being in the form (morphe) of God" Philippians 2:6

This is one of those times I really wish there was a 'like' button for comments.
Very well said.
The timing of the temptation, right after his baptism too.....
But overall, yes, in broad strokes it is very good to step back and observe

Re: "Being in the form (morphe) of God" Philippians 2:6

Great link and worth the time to read it all for sure. Thanks.
So Darin, do you think the passage is referring to the life/ministry of Jesus in general and not referring to a specific moment?
I could see that, since Jesus describes himself as being meek and lowly of heart....

Re: Reconciled to God , not Jesus

Are there any other possible meanings besides 'pre-existence' to reconcile the passage? It does not say He existed as God but in the form of God. Could this refer to Jesus in the garden before his betrayal? Could this refer to Jesus being tempted in the wilderness? Both are instances where Jesus cou...

Re: Reconciled to God , not Jesus

'he emptied himself' 'he made himself nothing' 'he made himself of no reputation' before we take 'emptied' and actually think he poured out part of his deity, we have to make sure we are not saying more than the words say just to fit a latter theory. Whatever he did, he did it by taking on the form ...

Re: Reconciled to God , not Jesus

Not as problematic as assumed, but definitely challenges years of thinking engraved in my head. It does not challenge Jesus as actually God's Son. That is clear straightforward repeated NT teaching. 'Mere man', Christology is an early pejorative given to those who didn't subscribe to Trinity theolog...

Reconciled to God , not Jesus

We are reconciled to God, we are not reconciled to Jesus. 1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus 2 Cor. 5 18All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19that is, God was in Christ, r...
