Re: Jesus' God was not the Trinity, why is yours?

Matt, I think they show that not only did Jesus have a God that was not the Trinity while he walked the earth, but they show that he still does have a God now, post-resurrection and ascension. This would seem to challenge the Nicene notion that God and Jesus are ontologically equal and have the sam...

Re: Jesus' God was not the Trinity, why is yours?

My problem with a list of Scripture verses like what we found in the opening post (used to question the doctrine of the Trinity) is that those very statements are the exact kind of statements trinitarians would expect to find in Scripture. By definition, if both groups (trinitarians and non-trinitar...

Re: Love and the Trinity

To my mind, 'holy' is an adjective that describes the noun 'love' when describing God's essential nature. God is holy love This way of saying it helps us to remember that when we say 'God is love'... we should not be pouring in a worldly definition of love. We must, instead, pour in a biblical defin...

Re: Love and the Trinity

Back to the OP, I was discussing this elsewhere and had the following further thoughts. The social trinity and a proof based on love seems really desperate to me. But, it begs two questions. First, if God can’t be complete without expressing His love in eternity, then what do you do when considerin...

Re: Trinities podcast

I've been out of pocket and owe Matt a few responses. But, I'll say quickly that I've listened to quite a bit of his material now and am more and more impressed by him every day. He seems pretty light on Spirit Christology, which is where I tend to lean even though its proponents have some weak sid...

Re: Trinities podcast

I only was in the same room with him in person

I talked to him through facebook. I don't want to say anything bad about the guy. I don't think he's a bad guy at all.

I will say that I thought his youtube presentations on world religions were very well done.

Re: Trinities podcast

Tuggy used to work not far from me. I've interacted with him a couple of times.

He's a smart guy... and a very thorough thinker

I don't find him persuasive on the topic of the trinity

He quickly dismisses arguments that I consider very strong. And I'm sure he'd feel the same about me.

Re: clarity of scripture doesn't uphold the Trinity

Christ gave what was given to him, so yes he had it but he had it because the Father gave it to him, it was not 'in himself' inherently but granted to him by the Father. John 5:26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself. This verse seems to dire...

Re: clarity of scripture doesn't uphold the Trinity

This one really bothers me. I don't see how this follows. Can you elaborate? To the contrary, if He was truly God then I don't see how salvation works - salvation seems to have depended on His being truly a fully tempted yet perfectly obedient man (though God could have saved differently, this was ...

Re: clarity of scripture doesn't uphold the Trinity

I am not really fit to answer the question, since I don't feel any real need to abide by westminster or that particular doctrine Nor do I believe my particular understanding of how the Father, Son & Spirit relate to one another is essential Christian doctrine But I will say that I do believe it is c...
