Re: Diug Wilson's "pennies"

Yes, I have heard about that book, and if I remember correctly, have read parts of it.
But I fail to see how that relates to whether or not it is possible to KNOW in advance what a free-will agent will choose.
In my opinion, to do that is logically inconsistent.

Re: Diug Wilson's "pennies"

I fully agree, Steve, that God's knowledge does not CAUSE my choice. I simply think that God or anyone else KNOWING that I will eat an apple tomorrow at 1 P.M., is logically inconsistent with the possibility of my choosing NOT to eat an apple at that time. And if my choosing not to eat an apple at t...

Re: Diug Wilson's "pennies"

If someone KNOWS (in the absolute sense of "know") that I will eat an apple tomorrow at 1 P.M. how is it possible that I could choose NOT to eat an apple at 1 P.M. tomorrow? And if it is not possible for me to refrain from eating an apple at 1 P.M. tomorrow, the I do not have free will.

Re: How is one saved?

Hi In2joy, you wrote:You’re obviously not saved.
You're right! And neither are you.

However, by the enabling grace of Christ, I am in the life-long process of being saved from wrongdoing in my life.

How about you? Where do you stand with regards to sin in your life?

Re: How is one saved?

Christ's death was for the purpose of saving us from sin — not to save us from hell. Salvation from sin (wrongdoing in our lives—doing that which harms others or ourselves) is a life-long process, not an instantaneous act. That process will some day come to completion: And I am sure of this, that he...

Re: Did the apostle John write Revelation?

Yes, you may be right, Homer and Darin. Perhaps a different person wrote down John's spoken words in his gospel, than he who wrote them down for the book of Revelation.

Re: Are You Saved?

So you are already saved. No matter what you do. Rape, murder... anything at all. It's impossible for you to go to hell in the afterlife.

Re: Soteriology

So those who die as non-Christians are DOOMED, you say. What do you make of Paul's words to Timothy: For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. (1 Timothy 4:10 ESV) Does the term "all people" e...

Re: Did the apostle John write Revelation?

That's an interesting thought, Darin!

I have always presumed that the NT writers physically wrote their own writings.

But John may have dictated both his gospel and Revelation to two different persons who wrote it down, and who spelled the Greek word for "Jerusalem" differently.

Re: Did the apostle John write Revelation?

Just today, I discovered some evidence in support of the position that the apostle John did not write the book of Revelation. The writer of Revelation spelled "Jerusalem" (in Greek) that is different from the way the apostle John spelled it in his gospel. I am not talking about the variations in end...
