Re: Where Is Everybody?

I stopped checking in regularly when there became too many political conversations. And people with an ax of minutia or conspiracy to grind dominated the threads. I have enough stress in my life. Don't need it fed by a forum. I still occasionally pop in and view active discussions. I haven't seen an...

Re: Reconciling the Flight to Egypt with Luke 2

Why would you intentionally exclude [a contradiction as] a possible explanation? I would exclude it because there is not the slightest reason to suggest one, and to do so is to call into question the veracity and/or competence of the two historians. There seems no fair reason to call these men's ab...

Re: Reconciling the Flight to Egypt with Luke 2

So I am having a little bit of a hard time reconciling the timing of the flight to Egypt.

I am NOT suggesting any type of contradiction or error, just looking for a way to reconcile the accounts.
Why would you intentionally exclude a possible explanation?

Re: Is "Christian-Democrat" an oxymoron? ~ Video

@Paidon Not only that, today's socialism is not the same as 1950's socialism. Any more than today's "capitalism" is the same as the 1950's. This strange breed of American nationalism fantasizes about an Eisenhower-ian golden era of capitalism and democracy that knew nothing of multi-national corpora...

Inequality

Personal character traits are counterproductive and unprovable, all that matters is what system works the best.
Then perhaps Homer shouldn't accuse people he disagrees with of character flaws.

I didn't say that. And didn't imply it because I don't believe it.
I suspect one of the greatest motivators on the liberal side is envy.
I am a liberal. I am not envious. Neither are the economists.

Re: What exactly is science?

@jon I think your definition is sound. I wish conservative religious people weren't spooked by naturalism. I continue to value Stephen Jay Gould's Non-overlapping Magisteria. The only way to do science is to assume naturalistic causes. Gould calls this "methodological naturalism." Otherwise, at any ...

Recent biblical scholarship news

Here's a thread for recent scholarship news.

This is an awesome new procedure allowing us to access to a damaged scroll.

Re: Inequality

That's a really interesting reply since I didn't say anything about raising taxes.
