Re: Your new Torah: 613 vs 1050 commands

I believe the "new life that automatically does everything we really couldn't do before" isn't about outward physical performance of the law, but inward/spiritual renewal through trusting that God has overcome the world on our behalf... rather than the prideful stance that we have overcome it oursel...

Re: Did Jesus ever make a mistake?

Yeah, I agree that he had a legit human experience... if he had to grow in wisdom that means he wasn't perfect in wisdom out of the gate... as a human I'm sure he had to learn how to use the tools of his trade and probably whacked his thumb with a hammer... which may have caused his eyes to water, w...

Re: How can people do good?

Psimmond wrote, the "righteous" are called such because they do what is right. I agree, in that always doing what is right is righteous. "Then it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us." Deuteronomy 6:25 Howev...

Re: How can people do good?

Ha ha, touché... I wasn't trying to split hairs- just understand your perspective on whether something good is good in and of itself, or good from a foundation of pure intent- I agree with you, that if good is defined by the act itself that good happens all around us everyday. However, I feel that t...

Re: Is man truly sinful?

Not that it is an authority on this topic, being fiction, but have any of you read, "Lord of the Flies?" It describes the potential results of isolating the innocence of society (children) and seeing what happens... they get stranded on an island and end up... well, I won't ruin it for you. Good poi...

Re: How can people do good?

Paidion wrote, Whenever I bring an example to show that those without the spirit of God can do good, you simply deny that what they do is, in fact, good. Couldn't this deed or any other deed be done for the wrong reason, and therefore be corrupted by the wrong motive for doing the deed? But the LORD...

Re: How can people do good?

Kenblogton wrote, I agree with what you say. My point is that it is impossible to do so in our own strength - it takes Holy Spirit inspiration (Christ working in us). I agree with you that it is impossible to do so in our own strength... and I believe the Bible takes it farther- based on the definit...

Re: How can people do good?

Paidion wrote, I think I have already answered that question. But I will attempt to do so more definitely: In terms of individual acts, the answer is "Yes". In terms of ongoing consistently good acts, the answer is "No". I think, since love never fails, that "unconditionally loving good" IS ongoing ...

Re: How can people do good?

Homer wrote, But are disciples of Jesus to be totally void of any consideration of self when they do good? Did Jesus appeal to self-interest, or no? "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out...

Re: How can people do good?

Kenblogton, I agree with you... only God knows for sure. Paidion, we can only judge a deed (even a giving of one's life for another deed) as it appears on the outside. God judges the heart of the matter- motives come into play. Perhaps someone can give up their life for another for a wrong reason......
