Sayings and Rhyme by Piet Hein
Sayings and Rhyme by Piet Hein
In view of your manner of spending your days
I hope you may learn, before ending them,
That the effort you spend on defending your ways
Could better be spent on amending them.
The universe may be as great as they say,
But it wouldn't be missed if it didn't exist.
Losing one glove is certainly painful,
But nothing compared to the pain
Of losing one, throwing away the other
And finding the first one again.
I am a humble artist moulding my earthly clod,
Adding my labour to nature's, simply assisting God.
Not that my labour is needed, yet somehow I understand,
My Maker has deemed it that I too should have unmoulded clay in my hand.
Living is a thing you do.
Now or never—which do you?
Naïve you are if you believe
Life favours those who aren't naïve.
I hope you may learn, before ending them,
That the effort you spend on defending your ways
Could better be spent on amending them.

Man judges a person by his past deeds, and administers penalties for his wrongdoing. God judges a person by his present character, and disciplines him that he may become righteous.

If defending one’s way is built on another’s
One’s thoughts aren’t his own in truth
So we live and we learn from God and Brothers
Of old, and adopt their truth.

There has been one update of the original post. It will probably be updated daily.

I sense that there's not much interest in Piet Hine's sayings and rhyme.
So today's entry in the original post will likely be the last.

Paidion,
Shouldn't you have ended your last post with the word "time", in keeping with the spirit of the thread? Don't stop on my account, I rather enjoy it, but may not employ it.
Regards, Brenden.

Not by Piet Hein, but a little more my speed, poetry-wise:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Bacon is red,
mmmmm... bacon...

All it took was just one post.
Thus I won't give up the ghost.
Since one person likes the man
I've begun to post again.
