Historically, I agree that gehenna is the valley outside Jerusalem. However,presently, I understand gehenna to be the "hell" which many (or possibly all) people will experience when they are raised from the dead. Notwithstanding, this is not a decided belief on my part. It may refer only to the historic place. I am in the process of trying to learn whether the concept of it being only the historic place outside Jerusalem is consistent with the teaching of Christ.
