Condemnation/Righteousness for everyone?

Post by _STEVE7150 » Sun Nov 11, 2007 9:06 pm

According to the people committed to the eternal torment doctrine there is no proof for reconciliation for all or at least most of humanity.
The truth is that there is scripture for it all over the place ,yet they either ignore it, dismiss it or add words to it.

"As through one trespass there is condemnation for everyone , so also through one righteous act there is life giving justification for everyone."Rom 5.18

Paul compares the "everyone" condemned in Adam with the "everyone" made "righteous" in Christ. Clearly these are the same people yet everyone is not in Christ in this life , so when will they be?

"For just as through one man's disobedience the MANY were made sinners so ALSO through the one man's obedience the MANY will be made righteous" Rom 5.19

SAME PEOPLE "the many."

"We have an advocate with the Father , Jesus Christ the righteous one . He himself is the propitiation for our sins , and NOT ONLY OURS , BUT ALSO for those of the whole world" 1st John 2.2

Notice the words "but also" another words CONTRASTING believers and the whole world yet saying Christ died for believers AND the whole world.

"God our Savior WHO WANTS EVERYONE to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." 1st Tim 2.4

Can God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven? Jesus prayed for that and Jesus thanked his Father for always hearing his prayers.
Of course God's will be done, He is the Creator of the universe!

Steve,

First, I have the new thread on G.K. Beale where we can discuss Revelation (as it has come up in the recent debates).

Anyway.
With reference to Romans 5:8, you wrote:Paul compares the "everyone" condemned in Adam with the "everyone" made "righteous" in Christ. Clearly these are the same people yet everyone is not in Christ in this life , so when will they be?
Paul has already answered your question at the beginning of the chapter.
Romans 5 (ESV)
1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Everyone who will ever be "in Christ" (a Christian) will be there in the same way everyone always has: by having faith in God and in Jesus, which is the only biblical way to access the saving grace of God.

Paul further reiterates this truth later.
Romans 10 (ESV)
8But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Neither Paul nor anyone in the Bible taught people can become saved or justified ("put in the right [relationship] with God") after they die. The Bible doesn't have any kind of "reincarnation" to where people come back to live their lives a second time to do anything differently. That teaching is in Hindu and Buddhist beliefs but not in the Bible.

Rick

Rick, No one mentioned reincarnation, however Paul himself the writer who you refer to was saved because HE SAW the risen Christ and believed as did Thomas.
As a matter of fact 500 of the disciples got to see Christ resurrected and thus BELIEVED by seeing.
Yes faith pleases God for sure but at least 500 had the opportunity to see and since EVERYONE except John abandoned Christ on the cross they did'nt believe till they saw him.
Is that privilige reserved only for them considering God is not a respecter of persons?
