This is when the labels break down. If you go too far right you're left and vice versa.

Dwight: I think you're looking at the Indians and not the chiefs. We could also say that most Muslims are peaceful and do not hate anyone. But when we look at their leadership around the world, we see a different picture. You seem to be saying that the WW2 Democrats were somewhat (ignorantly) content with FDR. Again, a closer look at FDR, one of the chiefs, reveals some real problems.

Dwight: I don't think the Democrat party has changed so much, except that the Democrats themselves appear to be returning to their original playbook of racism and statism and violence. It's like a Muslim rereading the Koran and realizing he must literally kill infidels, in order to please Allah.

Dwight: That is an old cliche, which is nonsense to me. It's like saying, "If you're too evil, you will become good and if you're too good, you will become evil." The only purpose a cliche like this "serves" is to confuse people and to keep them from fully examining both the right and the left, and then to clearly identify where they stand.

Dwight: A similar cliche which I believe does the same thing, is one that is referring to politicians: "They're all a bunch of crooks." This is a typical response of a Democrat when a Republican points out specific wrongdoing on the part of a Democrat. Instead of agreeing that that Democrat was guilty of wrongdoing, they will shift the blame to all Democrats AND Republicans. The truth is "No, they are not all crooks. Only the crooks are crooks. The politicians who have integrity (and yes, there are some) are not crooks." None of them are perfect, but many have integrity, just like we would find in any profession.

Dwight: Imagine being stopped by a highway patrol officer who tells you that you were speeding. Your response, "Everybody speeds, officer." Clever, but no cigar.

Exactly, Darin! The left-right spectrum is more like a circle than a straight line.

Take Adolph Hitler, extreme right, the chief Nazi who hated Jews, and took over other countries through war. Compare him with Joseph Stalin, extreme left, the chief Communist who hated Jews, and took over other countries through war. Hitler killed 6 million Jews in his death camps. Stalin killed an even greater number, but over a longer period of time.

There wasn't much difference in the attitudes of the two men. Nor was their much difference in their deeds.

Dwight: Untrue. It never has been, nor will it ever be.

Take Adolph Hitler, extreme right,

Dwight: Hitler is the ultimate racist, which is the foundation of the Democrat KKK organization. Both used intimidation, persecution, and violence. This is the polar opposite of the Right. There is no circle.

There wasn't much difference in the attitudes of the two men. Nor was their much difference in their deeds.
Dwight: Of course not, they're both Leftists.

Hitler and Stalin both leftists? Why do you suppose there was so much hatred of each other's political system? Were they leftists in competition?

The view that Hitler was extreme right-wing, has been the common view since the 1930s.

Those who wish to classify Nazism as the extreme left seem to be people with ultra-right views. They probably refuse to acknowledge Nazism as ultra-right because they don't want to be identified with it.

My thoughts pretty well coincide with the first one.

Looking up Hitler in The Encyclopedia Americana, written in 1955, there is no mention of him being a right-winger, much less an extreme right-winger. So if this was common knowledge in the 1930's, why wouldn't they have included that in 1955? Oh, I know, wikipedia wasn't around back then. True, there also was no mention of Hitler being a left-winger either. But it did say that he was an enemy of conservatives and democracy and a racist. let's see, do we have any groups today that fit that description? I think there is a group with strong socialist leanings, which has a racist history and depises conservatives. Oh yeah, they're called the Left.

It would be interesting to find out what year the circular political spectrum charts came out and who came up with them.
