Re: Taxes and Love Gifts

I thought I would add to this post even though it is a few months old since I'm a CPA and know a bit about this. First, keep in mind that we're talking about tax law here, not scripture, and that tax law isn't based on scripture, or morals, or even common sense. It just is what it is. And for you no...

Re: Christ's perfection / filling with Holy Spirit

I think I have to agree with Matt inasmuch as it would be theoretically possible to not sin. However, I certainly don't see it in my life. Try as I might, I fail over and over again. I've met people who claim to never sin, but once you start asking them some basic questions, it is clear that they st...

Re: Did Jesus Observe the Sabbath?

I have always thought that the old covenant was nullified upon the death of Christ when the veil of the temple was torn in two (Matt 27:51). During the last supper, when Jesus presented bread and wine and stated that they were the new covenant (Matt 26:26-28), it seems to me that these were symbols ...

Re: Barclay was convinced (UR)

I can't make sense of this. If, at the time Jesus spoke this parable, no one could be justified through Christ's atonement, nor could they be justified through the law, does this imply that they couldn't be justified at all? In that case, what would be the fate of those who died during those days? ...

Re: Barclay was convinced (UR)

I think I look at Matt 18 (and most of what Jesus said during his ministry) in light of the fact that this was prior to his death and ressurection. In other words, during a time period where the old covenant was still in effect. At this time, no one could be justified through the attonement of Chris...

Creation-evolution lecture

Steve -

I just finished listening to your lectures on creation v. evolution. I really enjoyed it. Do you have any plans to update this in light of all of the new knowledge in the area of DNA that has been discovered since you recorded your lectures?

Re: does God create each and everyone of us?

I think only Adam and Eve were created directly. From then on, all individuals came into being by natural processes which God established, and inherited the tendency to sin due to being descendants of Adam and Eve. If God had created us each individually, we would not be born with this tendency, fo...

Re: Barclay was convinced

Can you quote any passage which teaches that death is the cutoff point after which there is no possibility of repentance? Or do you accept this idea only because you were taught it? I guess my question back to you would be if you can quote any passage that clearly states that subsequent to the judg...

Re: Barclay was convinced

Steve - I think we all would condem the Spanish Inquisition, where people were tortured in an effort to get them to convert to Christianity. I guess in my mind the idea that God would use punishment to do the same thing smells wrong to me. That being said, I certainly understand parents using punish...

Re: Barclay was convinced

I think one of the aspect of UR that I have a hard time with is the idea that those in the LOF are to repent and ask Jesus to be their lord because of some kind of punishment. I think of those accepting Jesus here on Earth as responding to his love, not responding to some kind of punishment. Why wou...
