Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

I agree that Jesus was humble without sin's effects, this is true. But Jesus also had a much closer relationship with the Father which Peter did not have. Jesus was the only Person at that time who knew the Father intimately ( matthew 11:27 ). Peter was an infant spiritually, and I'd even argue, wa...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

Sin cannot be inevitable because: 1. Sin is a choice That sin is a choice is self-evident regardless of whether it is denied in theory. It is a necessary assumption of a moral choice. Any time a person weighs opposing motives and resists temptation their mind is affirming that their will is free. A...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

If [Peter] hadn't failed, he might have preached at Pentecost with pride, and not with humility ... it was a necessary step in the development of Peter's character. It was not necessary for Jesus to sin to be humble. Likewise Jesus did not think it was necessary for Peter: "Watch and pray, that ye ...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

As i see it the issue is "free will" verses "will" , we all have a will , but i doubt that it's free. I don't see any difference. It is almost redundant to say "free will" in the first place. The difference between the will and the instincts/reflexes is that we have power over the will but do not h...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

Was'nt the slaying of the lamb determined before the foundation of the world I don't know if it really says "before" or not in Greek. Furthermore, I think it is saying the names were in the book from the foundation of the world because there is a second verse like it that does not mention the slain...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

I'm not so sure we have "free" will and i don't know where the bible clearly affirms this. It is self-evident. It was a matter of natural revelation long before there were enough printed copies of the bible to go around. Everyone intuitively knows they are a moral agent. Every moral choice we make ...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

Maybe the question "would I have sinned?" would be more difficult to answer. I agree. I actually don't see any way to even get started trying to speculate about this because it seems totally imaginary. Was eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil the only way a person could fall into si...

Re: What if Adam didn't sin?

Could Adam have not sinned? Yes. Otherwise God's command would have been insincere. Though He knew disobedience was possible, God genuinely expected Adam to obey. More importantly, sin that is truly unavoidable cannot be sin at all. God could not justly condemn someone for inability. If he had not,...

Re: What is sin?

Thank you, Ben, for your clarification of both my objections. I'm glad that you don't hold to the penal substitution view as I thought you did. I have checked Augustus Strong's Systemetic Theology and was unable to find "The Moral Government Theory" of the atonement. I did find "The Moral Influence...
